Kieran Maguire suggests what Man City owners have told Pep Guardiola after confirmed FFP news
It is ‘ironic’ that Pep Guardiola is complaining about the pace of the FFP investigations given that Man City are delaying the process.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the contradicting actions of Guardiola and City.
The investigations into City’s finances are ongoing after the Premier League charged the champions with 115 breaches of Financial Fair Play in February.
Guardiola has admitted his frustration at the pace of the investigation and urged the Premier League to quickly conclude the process.
“What I would like is if the Premier League and judges could make [a decision] as soon as possible,” Guardiola said. “Then if we have done something wrong, everybody will know it.”
But as reported by The Times, a High Court ruling found that City had delayed the handing over of relevant documents and information by making numerous procedural applications in their previous investigation with Uefa and CAS.
Maguire branded Guardiola’s comments ‘ironic’, but understands that the City boss wants to limit any distractions to his side’s performances.
“I suspect Pep Guardiola just wants to get on with the football side of things,” Maguire told Football Insider.
“He will see the slow progress being made with regards to Man City’s charges as an unwelcome distraction.
“He would have been told by the club that they are extremely confident of successfully defending the charges and therefore you can see why he wants the whole thing put to bed.

“At the same time, it is ironic that one of the charges that has been levelled at Man City and upheld by Uefa is that the club has been using delaying tactics.
“City have not provided evidence as quickly as they perhaps should or shared the relevant documentation.”
