Kieran Maguire: ‘The clock is ticking’ for Everton as they fear third points deduction
Everton need the Premier League to confirm their financial breach this month so they can use the January transfer window to sell players and avoid a third breach next season.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the danger of the Toffees facing another bombshell charge next season.
After a 10-point deduction in November, Everton were charged with a second breach of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules last week.
The Merseyside club now face another points deduction if found guilty, and their poor financial situation could also put them at risk for their 2023-24 accounts.
That is because the PSR includes the previous three years of financial accounts in their assessment meaning Everton could again exceed the £105million allowable losses.
Maguire believes it is ‘essential’ for Everton to know the extent of their financial breach this month so that they can use the January transfer window to raise funds.
“I think it’s absolutely essential that Everton and the Premier League come to an agreement over the extent of Everton’s PSR losses for 2021-22 and 2022-23,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

“Everton need to know as quick as possible, in the next few days, as in the January 2024 transfer market the club may need to sell some of their talent.
“If it is the case that they need to raise lots of funds to help avoid a third breach next year – the clock is already ticking down to the end of January.“
