Kieran Maguire: West Ham rejected £15m offer to protect behind-the-scenes ‘secrets’
West Ham and other Premier League clubs rejected the proposal of a docuseries as they don’t want competitors taking a glance at their behind-the-scenes activity.
that is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the pros and cons of a Premier League docuseries.
As reported by The Times, Premier League clubs have rejected a bid by Netflix to produce a three-season series on England’s top flight.
The docuseries would use a similar format to the successful Drive to Survive series covering Formula 1, and the proposal was reportedly worth £15million.
Club insiders said the amount being offered was far too little to attract support from the 20 clubs.
Maguire insists Premier League clubs will prioritise security and industry secrets to avoid giving their rivals any form of advantage.
“On the face of it, the decision of Premier League clubs to reject a Drive to Survive-style docuseries seems a little strange,” Maguire told Football Insider.
“But perhaps a step back might indicate that there are many clubs where behind-the-scenes security is paramount, and they don’t want information or industry secrets being compromised, broadcasted and used by competitors.

“It then becomes a lot easier to see why clubs maybe aren’t so keen to have cameras around their facilities.
“Clubs don’t want to give away their crown jewels, and if a club like West Ham suffered as a result and were a few further places down the table then suddenly the small financial boost of the docuseries is certainly no longer worth it.“
