Kieran Tierney could still sign for Newcastle United after source’s reveal – pundit
Kieran Tierney could still leave Arsenal and join Newcastle United this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic and West Ham striker Frank McAvennie “wouldn’t be surprised” if Tierney does complete a move to Eddie Howe’s side before the end of the window.
Newcastle have held extensive talks with the 26-year-old’s camp about a potential move in recent months.
But, Football Insider revealed (18 August) that the Magpies have ended their interest in the left-back after completing a deal for Chelsea’s Lewis Hall.
Tierney has been linked with a move away for much of the summer after struggling for game time last term.
The Scotland international was left out of the matchday squad for the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Monday (21 August), despite both Oleksandr Zinchenko and new signing Jurrien Timber sidelined with injuries.
According to The Athletic (8 August), Spanish side Real Sociedad had been interested in taking Tierney on loan for the 2023-24 season with the Gunners preferring a permanent move for the defender.
McAvennie insisted Tierney can aim higher than Sociedad.
“I think he is better than that,” he told Football Insider.

“I think he is a better player than Real Sociedad. He is just not getting a game because of the way they are playing at Arsenal, it is nothing to do with his injury.
“I do not know what has happened with Newcastle because I thought he would have gone there. I think they might still come in, I would not be surprised if he ended up going to Newcastle.“
