Kieran Trippier: Expert fears Newcastle ‘revelation’ could be out until May after shattering update

Newcastle “revelation” Kieran Trippier could be facing three months on the sidelines after undergoing successful surgery, according to Alex McLeish.

The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 31-year-old will be utilising recovery chambers to try and come back sooner to aid in the Magpies’ relegation scrap.

Trippier fractured a metatarsal in his foot during Sunday’s (13 February) 1-0 win over Aston Villa – a game in which he scored the only goal.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, as quoted by the Guardian yesterday (18 February), revealed the right-back had undergone successful surgery but could not provide a return date, saying he “hopes to have him back before the end of the season”.

McLeish suggested a metatarsal problem is “not an easy injury to come back from”.

“Unfortunately, he’s the type who does his talking on the pitch,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“I can’t see him being much help talking in that dressing room on a matchday.”

“But he’s been a great signing for Newcastle, he’s a guy who really knows his way across the pitch. He’s been a revelation.

“When you bring quality players in, that is the sort of effect they can have.

“What a shame for Newcastle. It’s a metatarsal injury, so he’s probably looking at around three months out.

“It’s not an easy injury to come back from, but he’ll be in the recovery chambers and everything to try and come back as soon as he can.

“That being said, they won’t want to rush him back because that could easily end badly.”

Newcastle United

Trippier joined Newcastle early last month and his introduction to the side has coincided with a run of three straight Premier League wins.

The Magpies sit 17th, four points clear of the drop zone.

In other news, Kieran Maguire has claimed Newcastle need the finest legal representation after a “critical” development.
