Kieran Trippier: Newcastle United fans have critical role to play after ‘massive, massive’ news – pundit

Newcastle United will stay up despite the “massive, massive” injury to Kieran Trippier, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker suggested the Newcastle fans have an even bigger role to play now Trippier is unavailable.

The right-back scored his side’s only goal as they beat Aston Villa 1-0 at St. James’ Park on Sunday (13 February).

However, he was forced off early into the second half with a foot injury and the club confirmed on Monday (14 February) he has suffered a metatarsal injury and will be out for an extended period.

“If you look at the wins that Newcastle have had, it’s been down to Trippier,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“The majority of it has been Trippier and Saint-Maximin. To lose Trippier is a massive, massive blow to Newcastle.

“But they have shown fight and it is the fan base that have basically helped their team get the results they’ve got.

“I think Newcastle will be fine. The bottom three will be Watford, Burnley and Norwich City as the ones who go down.

“Saint-Maximin has been so influential and Dan Burn at the back, he’s going to be one they enjoy having.

“If I’m a betting man, I’m betting on Newcastle to stay up, for sure.”

Eddie Howe’s side are now on a run of three consecutive wins in the Premier League that has put them four points clear of the bottom three.

They are next in action on Saturday (19 February) when they travel to West Ham.
