Klopp reveals Liverpool strategy in January window
By Dominic Toner
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has explained that he will not force any transfers in the January window.
The 49-year-old German has revealed that he is already preparing targets for next summer and will only use January if it’s the “right moment”
Marko Grujic was the only player purchased in the last January window under Klopp and he was sent back on loan to Red Star Belgrade until the end of the season.
Klopp is not expected to make any bold signings in the upcoming window and admitted that he is pleased with his squad, despite playmaker Philippe Coutinho missing through injury and Sadio Mane set to compete in the Africa Cup of Nations.
“We always have an eye on the market but that doesn’t mean we can do what we want always,” Klopp told Sky Sports. “We are already looking for summer, that’s how it should be, and maybe we can bring these two windows together and do the right thing in the right moment. If not, we will not do it.
“I’m really happy with the squad. Of course, in this moment, Phil is not involved, from the beginning of January Sadio will not be involved, but we still have options,”
Liverpool have been dealt with several injury setbacks already during the course of the season, but have shown they have strength in their squad and Divock Origi has filled in well for Coutinho in recent games.
The Merseyside club are hopeful of competing for the Premier League title this campaign and have been turned into real contenders by Klopp.
They are currently second-placed in the league table and are six points behind leaders Chelsea, who have won their last 11 consecutive games in the top-flight.
In other Liverpool transfer news, the club are planning a January bid for a Brazilian attacker.
