Kobbie Mainoo: Significant update on Man United exit today – Insider

Man United will not sell Kobbie Mainoo under any circumstances despite interest from Chelsea, according to the club’s former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at Old Trafford during their most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that there are “a host of players” United would cash in on ahead of the 19-year-old.

He also warned that, should the England international be allowed to leave, the club would face significant backlash from their supporters.

This comes following reports that Mainoo could be sold as a result of growing financial pressure at United as they look to balance the books through player sales.

The midfielder would guarantee United pure profit, having come through their academy setup, similar to their deal to sell Scott McTominay to Napoli last summer.

However, he remains a crucial part of Ruben Amorim’s side and his long-term plans for the future, having made 18 appearances so far this season.

United also hold the proud tradition of having at least one academy graduate in their squad for the last 85 years – something Brown insists must be valued and protected.

Man United rule out Kobbie Mainoo sale amid Chelsea interest

Chelsea have been heavily linked with a move to sign the midfielder after the success of Cole Palmer since he was signed from Manchester City, and are closely monitoring his situation.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also spent time as the chief scout at Blackburn and Sunderland, has insisted that Mainoo will not be leaving United in the near future despite growing speculation.

If they sell Kobbie Mainoo, the supporters will burn the stand down,” he told Football Insider.

“I don’t think there’s a cat in hell’s chance of that happening any time soon.

“Definitely not if the ethos of Manchester United means anything, because they’ve always had an academy player in the team, and that’s something to be proud of.

“Mainoo came through at a time when they were desperate, established himself as a key player, and he’s gone on to earn a place in the England squad.

“He’s still a very important part of Amroim’s team, and will continue to be in the future.

“If the club are even going to think of selling people like that, then you’re entitled to question what direction the club is heading in.

“As far as I’m aware, there are a host of players the club would open to selling before they let Mainoo go.

“So the short answer is no, I wouldn’t expect United to sell Kobbie Mainoo under any circumstances.”
