Koeman will save Everton job if he signs this free agent before clash v Brighton
COMMENT By Danny Wright
Ronald Koeman has endured a tough start to the 2017/18 campaign at Goodison Park with Everton’s summer signings failing to settle down after a harsh run of fixtures.
The Toffees have had plenty of time to stew over the loss to Burnley over the international break but another dire result at newly promoted Brighton on Sunday could see the club hierarchy show Koeman the exit door.
One area of the Everton squad that is in desperate need of improvement is at right-back.
Cuco Martina was a horrific signing as a replacement to the injured Seamus Coleman and has been the worst player to pull on the Toffees shirt in a very long time.
Many are suggesting that academy product Jonjoe Kenny should be promoted to the first-team to play on a regular basis at right-back, but there is a glaringly obvious replacement who is a free agent that could come in straight away and do a job.
Manchester City released Bacary Sagna at the end of last term and he is yet to find a new club.
The 34-year-old is easily a better player than Martina – who might as well be sold or released in January – and his experience could come in really handy when trying to arrest this current slump that Everton find themselves in.
The Frenchman is a seasoned pro, with a French Cup, League Cup and FA Cup medal to his name as well as 65 full international caps.
Koeman must give Sagna a deal that runs at least until the end of the season while Coleman recovers from his broken leg because waiting around for January will simply not give him enough time to save his job.
In other Everton news, this 2016/17 goal machine has confirmed himself to be in Liverpool amid reports of a stunning return to Goodison Park in January.
