Konate and Mbeumo react to Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott announcement amid exit links
Ibrahima Konate and Bryan Mbeumo have reacted to an announcement from Liverpool on Harvey Elliott following rumours of the attacker being set to depart Anfield.
Liverpool won their second Premier League title at a canter last month, as they finished on 84 points, 10 ahead of their nearest title rivals Arsenal.
Arne Slot is set to delve into the transfer market for new attacking signings after their success, with Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz set to join the Reds in an initial £100million [The Athletic] deal.
There are surely set to be a few forward exits, as a result, and Football Insider recently revealed that Elliott looks likely to leave Liverpool to join a Serie A club this summer, after a campaign on the fringes at Anfield.
The 22-year-old made just two league starts as Slot’s side raced to the title last term, and his future on Merseyside looks uncertain beyond a summer in which he is looking to help England Under-21’s defend their European Championships crown.

Ibrahima Konate and Bryan Mbeumo react to Liverpool’s message to Elliott after England award
Football Insider revealed in April that Elliott’s priority is to remain at Liverpool ahead of next season, but he has been frustrated with his lack of action at the club, so it certainly seems likely that he leaves soon to further his own career as the Reds spend big in the summer window.
For now, though, his full focus will be on helping England U21s win the Euros, like he did back in 2023, and he has started the tournament in fine form with a goal in their first game against Czechia U21s, then a man-of-the-match award in their second outing against Slovenia U21s.
Liverpool shared a post on Instagram celebrating their attacker’s performance against Slovenia, saying: “A Player of the Match performance from Harvey,” and their message was reacted to with likes from his Reds teammates Konate, Curtis Jones and Tyler Morton to show their support.
Brentford forward Mbeumo also surprisingly reacted by liking Liverpool’s post despite looking set to leave the West London outfit for rivals Manchester United or Tottenham this summer.
Elliott should leave Liverpool to join a European club this summer
Football Insider verdict
Elliott’s time at Liverpool has been one of huge success so far, but he has struggled to play a major role in many of their six trophy wins since he joined the club back in 2019 from Fulham.
The 22-year-old’s talents looked to be coming to the fore in 2023/24, as he notched four goals and 14 assists in 53 appearances in Jurgen Klopp’s final season in charge at Anfield, but he has not been able to build on that since Slot arrived on Merseyside.
Appearances | Goals | Assists |
147 | 15 | 20 |
He featured just 28 times in all competitions last season, with Slot mostly choosing to stick by his trusted senior players, and so it comes as little surprise to learn that he has become unsettled at his lack of game-time.
Elliott’s minutes seem unlikely to increase much further in the new campaign, with Wirtz on his way to Anfield and more attackers likely to join him amid rumours of Liverpool’s interest in Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.
Football Insider have revealed that Serie A clubs are interested in the 22-year-old’s signature, with numerous Bundesliga sides are also believed to be tracking him, and so he should jump at the chance to experience a new league and follow the path of many young English talents that have thrived on the continent.
