Kris Boyd: This is the man to replace Warburton at Rangers (not McInnes or McLeish)
By Danny Wright
Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has given his thoughts on who should replace Mark Warburton at Ibrox.
Boyd believes that Billy Davies is the man that Dave King should be targeting for the vacant role.
The former Derby County and Nottingham Forest boss has been out of management since 2014, but Boyd still thinks he is the man Rangers needs.
“The Rangers chairman has some big decisions to make but if you ask me Davies is exactly what that club and team needs right now,” Boyd wrote in his column for the Scottish Sun.
“I’ve worked with the man and I tell you he’s a born winner, a perfectionist and someone who strives to make players better on a daily basis.
“He doesn’t accept mediocrity on or off the pitch, something which in some quarters HAS become the norm at Ibrox this season.
“If football is a results-driven business, there isn’t a better man. In any full Championship season he never finished with less than 79 points. I remember thinking back then he’d make a good Rangers manager and I stand by that.”
The 33-year-old, who currently plays for Kilmarnock, certainly has some strong thoughts on Davies being the ideal man after Warburton left the club in controversial circumstances on Friday.
Davies worked with Boyd when he signed him on loan in 2011 during his first of two spells as Forest manager. He scored six goals in 12 appearances for the club.
Boyd made 212 appearances for Rangers over two spells, scoring 115 goals in the process.
Rangers are currently third in the Scottish Premiership, level on points with Aberdeen who have a game in hand.
They are a massive 27 points behind fierce Glasgow rivals Celtic, who appear to have already secured the league title this season.
