Kris Boyd shares Celtic protest verdict as Brendan Rodgers slammed vs Dundee

Celtic were stunned by Dundee on Sunday, October 19, as the Hoops tasted their first league defeat of the season.

Dundee secured a 2-0 victory over Celtic to move up to ninth, while Brendan Rodgers’ men remain five points behind Hearts in second.

The Scottish giants never got going against Dundee, and Chris Sutton slammed Rodgers for his decision to start Yang Hyun-Jun over James Forrest, with the former being substituted at half-time for his poor display.

It’s been a disappointing couple of months for the title holders, with Celtic fans protesting to the board over a lack of ambition at the top.

Rodgers wasn’t happy with the business his side did during the window; however, one former Rangers striker has no sympathy for him.

Kris Boyd says Brendan Rodgers is ‘getting away with everything’

It’s ultimately been a poor start to the campaign for Celtic, who have drawn and lost their opening two Europa League matches.

But whilst off-field problems haven’t helped, Rodgers still has an extremely talented squad to choose from, and Kris Boyd has no sympathy for him.

Speaking after Celtic’s defeat to Dundee, Boyd claimed that Rodgers looked ‘switched off’ on the sidelines and believes he’s pushing his way out of the club.

“The balls coming on the pitch [protest] is a total deflection,” the Rangers icon said live on Sky Sports.

“That team replicates the way Brendan Rodgers is right now as well. Look at him. He looks as if he’s just switched off. The team is flat and looks as if there’s no energy about it.

“Rodgers…the signs are already there all of a sudden. Starting doing media interviews with media companies down the road. ‘I’m still here, I’ll be available next year because I’m not going to resign with Celtic, there’s an opportunity…’ And he’s getting away with everything.”

Rodgers has been linked with the Nottingham Forest job, and with his contract expiring in 2026, he could already be on the lookout for his next opportunity.

What Rodgers has said about Celtic future

Football Insider understands that Rodgers would be open to a Premier League return, perhaps seeing the Forest job as an attractive proposition.

Ultimately, he thinks the Celtic board have failed to invest in him properly, and that could spell the end of his time at the club.

Speaking in September, Rodgers said of his future to Sky Sports: “Coming back to here I said I would do a minimum three years. I’ve been categoric in that and I will do that, minimum, unless I get told otherwise.

“I said that on my first day as well and then going beyond that, we hopefully can work something together.

“If not, we’ll shake hands and then we’ll move on, but until that moment comes, I’ve given my life to Celtic. I want to continue with that, and we will see where it takes us.”
