Kris Boyd should be ashamed by comments on Celtic’s win vs Kilmarnock, even Rangers fans will be embarrassed

Kris Boyd has put himself at the centre of attention once again after Rangers and Celtic both won on Sunday.

The Bhoys scored deep into stoppage time to complete their comeback and snatch a 3-2 victory away at Kilmarnock, while Danny Rohl’s side responded with a fightback of their own to defeat Hearts 4-2 at Ibrox.

The latest round of action has seen the title race tighten up even more in the Scottish Premiership, with the top three now separated by just three points, although Celtic have a game in hand on their two title rivals.

It was a hugely stressful afternoon on Sunday for all involved, as the teams’ title prospects shifted and changed with regularity, but Boyd has surely overstepped the mark with his comments.

Kris Boyd’s Celtic jibe shows complete lack of professionalism

Boyd scored over 130 goals for Rangers across over 230 appearances in all competitions during his two spells at Ibrox in his playing career, and it is always clear where his loyalties lie.

The former frontman makes no bones about his affiliation with his former employers, but he can occasionally take it to a stage where he toes the line with his comments, given that he is supposed to be in a neutral role as a pundit.

That proved to be the case on Sunday evening, when he outlined his feelings towards the seven minutes of added time that saw Celtic net their winner earlier in the day.

“Well, there were three substitutions at half-time, wasn’t there? That can’t be added on to the second half,” Boyd said during Sky Sports’ coverage of Rangers vs Hearts.

“The board, they should just change it to ‘play until Celtic score’. Just hold the board up and say that.”

There was something of a tongue-in-cheek element to the 42-year-old’s comments, but he should still be ashamed to pass a comment like that live on television, effectively suggesting that Scottish Premiership referees favour Celtic.

Even Rangers fans are likely to be embarrassed by his accusation, as it shows hints of a potential victim mentality.

Hearts set for excellent chance to address their slide

Rangers and Celtic have both spent the last few months desperately trying to reel in Hearts at the top of the table, and stop them from claiming an unprecedented league title.

Derek McInnes’ side have been the division’s pace-setters for almost the entire campaign so far, but they are beginning to show signs of faltering at a crucial stage of the season.

The Edinburgh outfit have won just two of their last five league games, and that has seen the Old Firm duo close the gap to the point where they are now within touching distance of them.

However, while Hearts have struggled of late, they will be delighted to see that their upcoming fixtures are set to give them the perfect chance to halt their recent slide.

Clashes with Kilmarnock, Livingston and Dundee are all on the horizon in the coming weeks, as McInnes’ men face just one team who are currently in the top half before their 11 April meeting with Motherwell, in the final game before the league split.

That gives them the perfect chance to rebuild their confidence and find their rhythm again, while also putting the pressure back onto Rangers and Celtic.
