Kylian Mbappe: Kieran Maguire reveals if FFP rules will allow Man United to complete signing
Man United could join the race to sign Kylian Mbappe this summer if they can convince sponsors to help fund a deal.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that the Red Devils could use the same strategy Inter Miami used to sign Lionel Messi.
It was widely reported last week that Mbappe has informed Paris Saint-Germain that he will leave the French club this summer.
Real Madrid are the current favourites to sign the 25-year-old World Cup winner when he becomes a free agent at the end of the season.
However, Maguire previously told Football Insider that both Liverpool and Tottenham are in a ‘strong’ financial position to compete for Mbappe’s signature.
Man United could use sponsors to fund record Kylian Mbappe transfer
Maguire explained that United are under tight Financial Fair Play restrictions but could source funding from club partners to make Mbappe a ‘marquee’ signing.
“If Jim Ratcliffe can find some more money, then it would be the ideal marquee signing to really show Manchester United fans that the club means business,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“But they have less wiggle room when it comes to Financial Fair Play.
“What we could see is a scenario similar to what we’ve seen in respect of Lionel Messi going to Inter Miami where the partners of the club – Adidas and Apple – are effectively picking up the tab.
“Now, if Manchester United could get a sponsor who is effectively seen as the Kylian Mbappe sponsor, then all bets are on.

“But we saw that PSG were willing to offer him over £100million, so whoever is going to join the race will have to dig deep to find the money.
“In an FFP environment, that’s not easy.“
