La Liga expert shares insight on Liverpool signing Araujo after ESPN update

Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo as Liverpool monitor the player’s situation.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal striker, who delivered weekly punditry for La Liga TV last season, said the 22-year-old would be a “great signing”.

Araujo has 18 months left on his contract at the Nou Camp.

According to ESPN correspondents Moises Llorens and Samuel Marsden (25 November), Jurgen Klopp’s side are closely monitoring the centre-back.

The Reds already boast a number of top-quality centre-halves.

However, Joe Gomez and Nathaniel Phillips have been linked with moves to Aston Villa and West Ham respectively in recent weeks.

When asked for his insight on Araujo, Campbell told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs: “Araujo is a top young player.

“He is physical, young and improving all the time.

“He would be a signing that will future-proof the club. In Araujo you have a player for now and the future.

“I think he’d be a great signing for Liverpool. I’m sure there will be a number of clubs interested in him though because he is a good young player. It’s one to keep an eye on.”

Araujo has made 14 appearances for the La Liga giants across all competitions this season and has scored once.

As quoted by Heavy (26 November), new Barca manager Xavi Hernandez heaped praise on the five-time Uruguay international for his “excellent character”.
