‘Lacked quality’ – Rodgers delivers verdict on Celtic draw v Rangers, raves about one player
Brendan Rodgers has admitted that a 0-0 draw was a fair result in the Old Firm derby between his Celtic side and Rangers on Saturday.
Celtic created the best chances in the first-half with Scott Sinclair and James Forrest both coming close but it was a different story in the second-half where Craig Gordon earned a point with great saves from James Tavernier and Alfredo Morelos.
As quoted by Celtic’s official website, the Hoops boss was honest in his assessment of the game.
“The game lacked quality. It was frantic, and these types of the games are,” he said.
“There was lots of effort and commitment but we just lacked that little bit of quality today in the final third.”
The Northern Irishman was also full of praise for Craig Gordon’s performance, raving about the goalkeeper after he made a series of saves.
“He didn’t have too much to do but in those moments in the second-half he saved them very well.”
The game was the definition of a game of two halves, as Celtic dominated large spells of the first-half, with Scott Sinclair missing an absolute sitter on the stroke of half-time.
That let-off must have given Rangers confidence, as they had by far the better chances in the second-half, aside from the aforementioned saves Gordon made Morelos was guilty of missing a great chance as he sent a free header wide off the goal.
The result keeps the Hoops 11 points ahead of their old rivals, with the next match between the teams set for Ibrox on the 10th of March.
Celtic now head to Dubai for their winter break, and are next in action in the Scottish Cup against Brechin on the 20th of January.
