Rangers are back in talks over a potential deal as they look to sign another forward before the window shuts.
He has been frequently linked to a transfer to the Glasgow giants amid his excellent form in recent seasons for the Jambos.
In the current campaign, the 28-year-old has bagged 18 goals and three assists across 28 appearances in all competitions.
The Gers are keeping a close eye on the Scotland international’s situation, who has 18 months remaining on his contract at the Edinburgh club.
Hearts have held contract talks with Shankland but he is currently refusing to pen a new deal.
The club are eager for recruits in their frontline following the disappointment of summer additions Sam Lammers, who has moved to FC Utrecht on loan for the rest of the season, and Cyriel Dessers.
