BT Sport pundit blasts idea of Celtic senior man leaving to join PL club
Steve McManaman has blasted the idea that manager Brendan Rodgers would consider leaving Celtic to become the new man in charge of Stoke.
The Premier League club sacked manager Mark Hughes after an embarrassing FA Cup loss to Coventry on Saturday, and the BT Sport pundit was told that a Stoke fan wanted to see Rodgers as their next manager.
“Brendan wouldn’t go near the Stoke job,” the former Liverpool winger said, as shown on the Football on BT Sport Twitter account.
“Why would you leave Celtic, where you’re winning trophy after trophy, to go to Stoke?”
Rodgers has been a massive success since taking over in the East End of Glasgow.
The Parkhead senior man lead the Hoops to their first domestic treble since 2001 in his first season of the club, set a British record of 69 domestic matches without defeat, and has won four domestic trophies from a possible four.
He has also managed to qualify for the lucrative group stages of the Champions League two seasons in a row, and this year has manged to get the Hoops into Europe after Christmas for the first time in three years, with a Europa League last 32 tie against Zenit to look forward to.
The Hoops are currently in Dubai on their winter break, they return to domestic action on the 20th of January, with a match against Brechin in the Scottish Cup.
In other Celtic news, the Hoops have been linked with Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge
