‘Leave this club immediately’ – Bournemouth fans incensed by player’s ‘disgrace’ altercation with fans vs Everton

Bournemouth fans were completely startled by what Marcus Tavernier did to the home crowd during their 1-0 defeat to Everton on 2 December.

The Cherries have now gone five matches without a win in the Premier League after a below-par display against the Toffees down on the south coast.

Prior to the match, focus was on Antoine Semenyo who continues to be linked with a move away in January.

Similarly, Bournemouth are sweating over Andoni Iraola’s contract situation with his current deal set to end at the end of the season, depicting somewhat of a crisis at the Vitality Stadium.

Yet, amid the disappointment of the night, fans were left raging by Tavernier‘s reckless actions in the defeat to Everton.

Marcus Tavernier’s future at Bournemouth in doubt after spat with supporters

Starting on the bench against the Toffees, the Englishman came on in the 60th minute to try and impact proceedings during a nervy end-to-end stalemate.

The 26-year-old was brought on for Amine Adli down the left-hand side, yet didn’t have the desired effect when he had an on-field altercation with the North Stand.

The number 16 was put through on goal into the box and had the chance to take a shot, before opting to retreat back to the corner flag rather than taking on the defender.

His actions enraged the Bournemouth crowd, who were angered by his questionable decision not to run full speed at goal.

In response to the strong words from the Cherries fans in the north end of the stadium, Tavernier expressed his frustrations whilst on the ball, appearing to distastefully reply to the criticism as well as throwing his arm in the air in outrage.

Later on, the ex-Middlesborough man ended up giving the ball away, which painfully led to Jack Grealish‘s strike in the 78th minute to win the match for David Moyes.

Supporters were incandescent with the midfielder’s unpleasant antics, with one fan saying: “Tavernier shouldn’t be captain again. Gave the ball away on every touch, has a dig at the North Stand, before giving the ball away for their goal and didn’t even come over at the end.” with another adding: “Leave this club immediately Tavernier.”
