
‘Leeds agree deal to re-sign Jonny Howson from Middlesbrough in surprise new role’
Jonny Howson is set to return to Leeds United in a new role following the end of his stint at Middlesbrough.
The Whites are preparing for life back in the Premier League following their title-winning campaign in the Championship last season.
The Yorkshire outfit enjoyed an exceptional season in the second tier, pipping Burnley to lift the title with 100 points, scoring 95 goals along the way.
Ahead of their return to the top-flight, Daniel Farke’s side have signed six players, including Sean Longstaff from Newcastle, as they aim establish themselves back in the top flight.
Leeds were relegated from the Premier League in May 2023 but are making moves to improve across all levels of the club.

Howson comes back home to Elland Road
According to LeedsLive (22 July), Leeds are set to bring Howson back to the club in a player-coach role with the Under-21s, with his contract at Middlesborough having expired.
It was thought the Boro servant of eight years may extend his contract a further year with his deal expiring this summer.
It is believed that talks between Leeds and the 37-year-old ended the contract talks, with the Morley-born man set to reunite with his former side.

On his departure, Middlesborough wrote: “His [Jonny Howson] versatility and composure were a joy to behold and as club captain he led by example.”
These characteristics will be instrumental in Leeds U21s continuous development, likely leading to more successful prodigies progressing to the senior team.
Howson will also be joining Scott Gardner in the U21s, after he was appointed as head coach in January 2024 after his stint with the U18s.
