‘Leeds and Everton set to offer Gustavo Hamer an EFL escape route’
Gustavo Hamer was one of the standout players in the Championship this season, and the midfielder could be set for a Premier League move.
Hamer’s Sheffield United were beaten by Sunderland in the play-off final at Wembley, missing out on promotion to the top flight.
Chris Wilder’s side took the lead under the arch, with Hamer instrumental in the goal, playing through Tyrece Campbell, who finished superbly.
However, the Black Cats came roaring back in the second half, Eliezer Mayenda levelling the scores with an emphatic finish, before 19-year-old Tommy Watson broke Blades hearts with a 95th-minute winner.

Hamer set to for summer move
It’s not the first time Hamer has fallen to defeat in the play-off final, as the 27-year-old was part of the Coventry side who were beaten on penalties by Luton Town back in 2023.
That summer, the midfielder ended up in the Premier League anyway after moving to Sheffield United, and it looks as if history is repeating itself.
According to reports by talkSPORT (27 May), both Leeds and Everton are interested in acquiring the services of the diminutive playmaker.
Football Insider exclusively revealed (7 May) that Leeds will have a budget of £150million to spend when the window opens next month.
Further north, Everton are expecting a busy summer after boss David Moyes revealed that he will be backed by the new owners on Merseyside.

Hamer far too good for the Championship
Football Insider Verdict
Once again, Hamer proved throughout the 2024/25 campaign that he is far too good for the Championship and deserves another shot at top-flight football.
The Brazilian scored ten goals and picked up eight assists, as he very nearly fired Sheffield United back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Games | Goals | Assists |
44 | 10 | 8 |
In the 2023/24 season, Hamer was just as prolific in the second tier, scoring 11 goals and assisting 10 times as Coventry missed out on promotion.
Losing two play-off finals is no fault of his either, as he performed in both games, scoring the equaliser in 2023, as well as grabbing the assist for Campbell’s opener this time around.
Hamer was playing for a dismal Sheffield United team in the Premier League last season, and wasn’t given a fair chance to show what he could really do.
If he gets a move to a club where he is surrounded by quality players, then he will flourish.
