Leeds boss Christiansen delivers verdict as 2017-18 Championship fixtures released
By Matt Farr
Leeds United manager Thomas Christiansen believes his side have been handed a “tough start” against Bolton Wanderers on the opening day of the 2017-18 season.
The Yorkshire-based club published their fixtures for the upcoming Championship campaign on their official website on Wednesday morning, where it was revealed that Leeds would begin against the newly-promoted side.
Bolton earned an immediate return to England’s second-tier by sealing automatic promotion from League One last season, and they have been rewarded with an opening clash in front of their own fans.
As quoted by Yorkshire Evening poster reporter Lee Sobot on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday, Leeds chief Christiansen delivered his verdict on their opening tie.
He said: “Bolton away will be a tough start to the season, but we will be ready. We want to start with a win.”
Christiansen, who was previously in charge of Cypriot outfit APOEL, was appointed as the new Leeds United manager on Friday, following a prolonged managerial search.
He fills the position at Elland Road vacated by Garry Monk, who has since been appointed as Middlesbrough boss after his sudden departure at the end of last month.
The Denmark-born manager will seek to pick up where his predecessor left-off ahead of the new season, and guide Leeds to a play-off or automatic promotion place.
Leeds had finished seventh under Monk in 2016-17, seeing their promotion dreams crash and burn after a poor end to the season.
In other Leeds United news, fans on Twitter have delivered their verdicts as the date for Monk’s Elland Road reunion has been confirmed.
