Barcelona striker set to join Leeds after terminating contract – reports
By Harry Sykes
Barcelona rising star Kun Temenuzhkov has quit the club to join Leeds United, according to reports.
Bulgarian outlet Novsport claim Temenuzhkov, 17, has terminated his contract with the Spanish giants to make the move to Elland Road.
It is said that the teenage striker has told his youth international teammates he is moving to the English Championship club because he feels he will get more opportunities.
At Leeds, Temenuzhkov will link up with another player who is reportedly headed to the club from Barcelona, Oriol Rey.
Reports emerged on Thursday that the Yorkshire giants have already agreed the terms of a two-year contract with centre-back Rey.
Gol Bulgaria also corroborate that Temenuzkhov has broken off his Barcelona youth contract to move to Leeds three years after joining the famous La Masia academy.
Former Real Madrid director Ivan Bravo, who was appointed to the Leeds board at the end of last season, is overseeing an overhaul of the youth set-up and has already brought in a number of rising stars who the club hope can develop into first-team players.
Spaniards Madger Gomes, Alejandro Machuca and Adrian Balboa have all signed, along with Moroccan attacker Ousama Siddiki from Real Madrid.
Temenuzhkov appears to be the latest youngster who will link up with the development squad and aim to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Ronaldo Vieira and Kalvin Phillips from youth to senior team.
Football Insider verdict:
The Spanish-isation of Leeds continues at a dizzying pace. Supporters will be rubbing their eyes in disbelief that the Yorkshire giants have agreed deals to sign two rising stars from Barcelona in the same day. Temenuzhkov and Rey might well not make it, but the club have a clear strategy of hoovering up emerging and less heralded players from a country which dominated European football for a decade. The Leeds faithful have been used to the club making ends meet and hoping for the best for so long. Now, there finally appears a credible plan.
In other Leeds transfer news, the club have agreed the terms of a stunning £7million deal.
