Leeds coach expected to join Championship rivals – report
By Derek Smithson
Leeds’ senior man James Beattie is set to join Garry Monk at Middlesbrough, according to a report.
The Sun claim that Beattie is “likely” to link-up with Monk at the Riverside Stadium and become a part of the backroom staff.
The pair previously worked together at Elland Road last season where Beattie was the first-team coach and they helped the side reach a credible seventh in the Championship.
However, Monk’s departure from Elland Road in the summer has shocked the Yorkshire club and there are now set to be major changes.
Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani is still on the search for a new manager following Monk’s resignation and may have to bring in a whole new backroom staff.
The Whites are desperate to end their exile from the Premier League and are refusing to make any rash decisions on who will be in charge next season.
Bookmakers Sky Bet have Victor Sanchez priced as the 2/1 favourite, with Quipe Sanchez Flores and Alan Pardew both further back at 3/1.
Leeds could be in direct competition with Boro next season for promotion as the latter suffered relegation from the Premier League last year.
Monk has been tasked with returning the club to top flight and his trusted advisor Beattie could also become a part of their journey.
The pair proved their qualities int he Championship last year and will hope to do the same again for Boro.
In other Leeds news, Monk has explained his decision to leave Elland Road.
