Leeds could beat ‘biggest names in the world’ to pull off major ‘coup’ after Raphinha reveal – pundit
Leeds United could pull off a “coup” by signing Raphinha down to a new contract, according to Alex McLeish.
The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the “biggest names in the world” would be circling to sign the 25-year-old.
As reported by the Athletic’s Phil Hay on Wednesday (29 December), Leeds are in talks over a new and improved contract for the winger.
Significantly, the Brazil international is reportedly open to committing his future at Elland Road.
His current terms, signed when he joined in 2020, expire in the summer of 2024.
There has been much speculation over Raphinha’s future, with the likes of Bayern Munich and Chelsea reportedly interested ahead of January.
As such, McLeish insisted Leeds would do well to tie him down.
McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Raphinha has been a very exciting player to watch.
“It’s great to see him getting on the ball. He can take people, he can eliminate defenders in seconds and he’s been a brilliant player for them.
“No wonder he is getting all the attention from other clubs.
“The biggest names in the world are looking at him.
“If Leeds sign him (to a new contract), I think that would be somewhat of a coup.”
Raphinha has scored 14 goals and contributed 10 assists in 47 appearances for Leeds.

As revealed by Football Insider back in October, Liverpool are also in the hunt to sign Raphinha.
The Leeds ace has blown the Reds’ talent spotters away with his performances since coming to England.
In other news, Leeds United tipped to sign new striker in double transfer raid in January.
