Leeds employee issues ‘miracle’ Illan Meslier claim

Noel Whelan has hailed Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier after his “miraculous” recovery ahead of the 3-0 win over Watford on Saturday (9 April).

The former Whites striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 22-year-old’s “hungry” mentality is present throughout the Elland Road club.

As quoted by Leeds Live after the win over the Hornets, manager Jesse Marsch revealed Meslier had made a “miraculous” recovery after struggling with injury in the days leading up to the game.

The American saluted the shot-stopper for delivering “one of his best performances of the season”.

As per FBRef, Meslier has recorded the most saves of any Premier League goalkeeper this season (114).

Whelan suggested Whites stars will be desperate for minutes in the coming weeks as Marsch plans for next season.

“He’s a really young, talented player,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“It’s good to see him hungry to play, no matter what the circumstances – and that’s the mentality with the young players all through this squad.

“Everyone wants to be a part of this because they know that Jesse Marsch will be taking stock ahead of next season.

“He’s such an important player for us, and it’s good to see him out there after that injury worry and getting a clean sheet.”
