Leeds employee issues verdict on Junior Firpo starting vs Crystal Palace after early team news

Stuart Dallas should start at left-back for Leeds United against Crystal Palace despite Junior Firpo’s return from injury, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Whites striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 31-year-old provides Jesse Marsch’s side with “more security and stability”.

Marsch confirmed Firpo’s return to training during an interview live on talkSPORT earlier this month (13 April) – with Leeds Live claiming the Spaniard should be available for tonight’s clash.

Firpo has missed the last four games for Leeds United after being stretchered off during the 3-0 loss against Aston Villa on 11 March.

The former Barcelona man has made just 22 appearances in his time at Elland Road, contributing one assist.

Whelan claimed Dallas will better deal with the pressure as Leeds United travel to Selhurst Park in desperate need of three points.

“I think Stuart probably gives you a bit more security,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“He knows what this game is all about, and the pressure of the Premier League that comes with it.

“He gives you that stability much more than Firpo. He’s not a left-footer, but at the same time – we know he does a really good job in there regardless.

“He’s got the energy, he can defend one on one, and he likes to get into the final third as well.

“But there’s no doubt about it, whether he plays in defence or midfield – he’ll still bring that same work rate and tireless nature.”

Leeds United

Leeds United are four points clear of the drop zone with five games remaining.

The Whites are unbeaten in four games.
