Leeds employee: Jesse Marsch handed ‘massive’ boost after ‘brilliant’ behind-the-scenes news
Noel Whelan has hailed the “great appointment” of Leeds United coach Mark Jackson.
The former Whites striker and club ambassador, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 44-year-old has done a “brilliant job” in charge of the under-23 side.
Jesse Marsch, who was appointed manager of Leeds United on Monday (28 February) following Marcelo Bielsa’s departure a day earlier, confirmed his backroom staff yesterday (3 March).
Jackson, who had managed the club’s under-23 side since September 2020, has been promoted and will now undertake “first team duties”.
The former defender, who played 19 times for the Whites between 1995 and 2000, has overseen the development of a number of youngsters – including Charlie Cresswell, Joe Gelhardt and Jamie Shackleton.
Whelan insisted Jackson will be a “massive help” for Marsch.
“I don’t think there’s a better man for the job,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“I certainly don’t think there’s anyone who deserves it more than Mark, to be honest. He’s done a brilliant job with the under-23s.
“He’s been at the club an awfully long time – he knows the values and the ins and outs of the club.
“He has proven himself to be a really good manager, especially with the development of some of the kids we are seeing in that first team.
“He knows the players inside out, and he’ll be a massive help to the new manager. He’s massively respected at the club for everything he’s done.
“I think it’s a great appointment and I wish him all the best in this new role.”

Leeds United face Leicester City at the King Power Stadium tomorrow (5 March) in Marsch’s first game in charge.
The Whites sit 16th in the Premier League.
