Leeds expected XI v Derby after final training session: Senior quartet axed
Andy Lonergan (Goalkeeper) – There was a hint – maybe not a big one – from Heckingbottom at his press conference that he would wield the axe on Felix Wiedwald after his weekend howler against Bristol City. That would mean a recall for Lonergan, who so nearly joined Sunderland at the end of last month.
Vurnon Anita (Right-back) – With Berardi available again, Heckingbottom will be tempted to turn to the Swiss immediately. However, Anita was one of Leeds’ most accomplished performers at the weekend and he is in line to retain his place.
Matthew Pennington (Centre-back) – With Liam Cooper available after serving the final match of a four-game ban, the on-loan Everton player is the centre-back most at risk of losing his place. But Pennington has been solid enough, and deserves to stay in.
Pontus Jansson (Centre-back) – Talisman, defensive leader and arguably the team’s best player, Jansson will be key to keeping Derby at bay. But he must be careful as another yellow card will mean a two-match ban.
Laurens de Bock (Left-back) – The January recruit has been inconsistent since his arrival but his attitude was impressive against Bristol City and he was key to the comeback.
