Leeds ‘expecting’ Jaka Bijol offer as Premier League club plot move

Leeds United are expecting to field interest in Jaka Bijol in the summer as a result of his impressive displays in the Premier League this season.

More than one Premier League club is believed to be keeping tabs on the 27-year-old, who has become a crucial part of Daniel Farke‘s starting XI.

Should Leeds suffer relegation come the end of the season, they will find it very difficult to keep hold of the centre-back, but could struggle even if they stay up.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Bijol‘s aggression and commitment to defending makes him stand out against other options.

Those assets have also been key to Leeds’ resurgence, with their turn of form marked by his inclusion as a regular in Farke’s starting XI back in November.

Leeds United brace for offers for Jaka Bijol

Leeds feared interest in Bijol during the January transfer window amid links with a return to Serie A, with Fiorentina reportedly keeping tabs on his progress.

Having arrived at Elland Road from Udinese for a fee of over £15million in last summer’s transfer window, he will likely cost well in excess of that fee this time around.

Bijol has been fantastic for Leeds so far this season,” Brown told Football Insider.

“The problem they might have is, any player playing at a high level for Leeds or any other club in their position is going to attract a lot of interest.

“There’s still a possibility they could go down, they’re not out of it yet, and if that happens they might find it very hard to keep hold of him.

“But even if they don’t, there are a few Premier League clubs who will be looking at him.

“Given the type of player he is, a physical defender, not afraid to put his foot and his head in and help the team, there’s always going to be interest.

“Leeds won’t want to lose him because he’s been a big part of the success they’ve had this season.

“Centre-back is a position they’ve had issues in before, but he’s come in there alongside Joe Rodon who has also really impressed me, and made a real stable back line.”

Daniel Farke’s priority transfer plan revealed

Despite speculation about potential departures in the summer, Leeds have been looking to improve their squad as they are on course to achieve survival.

While their Premier League status is far from confirmed, with West Ham picking up form in recent weeks and Nottingham Forest changing managers, they remain confident.

As a result, they are making new transfer plans, and Football Insider revealed on 10 February that Leeds want to sign a goalkeeper as a priority.

Farke believes his squad must be strengthened between the sticks if they are to establish themselves as Premier League regulars following a strong season so far.

Concerns about both Karl Darlow and Lucas Perri have forced the Peacocks to assess their options, with a number of potential targets already being assessed.
