Leeds face points deduction as new details emerge – fans react
Leeds United have been warned they could face a points deduction after new EFL financial rules were proposed in the Championship.
Leeds, Hull, Stoke, West Brom, Swansea and Cardiff are reportedly “locked in battle” over implementing eased spending rules, with a UEFA-esque spending allowance of 70% of revenue mooted.
This would allow the league’s richer clubs an advantage over their competitors via increased spending.
As a result, fans have claimed the clubs pushing for the changes are on the brink of breaching the current financial regulations, and are trying to avoid possible points deductions.
All six clubs have ambitious and rich owners, particularly after Leeds’ additional investment from Red Bull, and are looking to invest large sums to compete for promotion and survive in the Premier League.
Leeds United fans rejoice as Championship financial twist emerges
Leeds fans have responded positively to the news, as have fans of the other clubs challenging the EFL, with the potential for higher spending tipped to lead to more ambition.
However, the clubs have been warned they could face points deductions if the rules are not changed, while fans of other clubs have not taken so warmly to their challenge.
Supporters of the clubs in question, meanwhile, were excited.
Others, however, warned of the impact it could have on the clubs outside of the mega-rich few.
