‘Phew’, ‘Hot prospect’ – Leeds fans react to speculation two deals all but done with Euro clubs

Leeds United are reportedly on the verge of signing Juventus centre-back Ouasim Buoy before loaning him out – and supporters are underwhelmed at the double deal.

Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Phil Hay has claimed on his personal Twitter account the Dutch 24-year-old is set to agree terms with the Championship giants before heading out for the season to Spanish second-tier club Cultural Leonesa.

The Elland Road faithful are confused as to why the club are signing a player at the relatively mature age of 24 and then loaning him out to aid his development.

Others questioned why Leeds have not made the senior centre-back signing so clearly needed ahead of Sunday’s Championship opener against Bolton.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Former Holland Under-19 international Buoy has been under contract with Italian champions Juventus since 2012 but has made just a single appearance for their senior side and his deal expires this summer.

He has spent the past two seasons on loan in Holland with PEC Zwolle, making 42 appearances across all competitions.

Buoy has had loan spells in Germany, Greece and Italy with Brescia, Hamburg, Panathaniakos and Palermo.

He, began his career in midfield, predominantly as a defensive midfielder, but has subsequently switched to play at centre-back.

With Pontus Jansson serving a two-match suspension carried over from 2016-17, Leeds currently only have two centre-back options available for the start of the season, Liam Cooper and loanee Matthew Pennington.

But it appears that Buoy will not solve their centre-back dilemma in the short-term as he prepares for a temporary spell in Spain.

Football Insider revealed earlier on Monday that the Yorkshire giants have ramped up their interest in Joe Bryan, regarded as one of the best left-backs in the Championship.

In other Leeds transfer news, a left-back has headed to Elland Road as he aims to secure a permanent transfer from top-flight club.
