‘In for a spanking’ – Leeds fans react to shock Christiansen decision v Leicester

By Russell Edge

Leeds United fans have taken to social media to react to news that Thomas Christiansen has made 10 changes for their League Cup clash against Leicester City on Tuesday.

The Whites revealed their starting XI for the round of 16 clash via their official Twitter account, which confirmed that the Danish manager had almost completely changed the line up from their win over Bristol City on Saturday, with just Kalvin Phillips remaining.

While the manager may have been expected to rotate several of his star players to give them a rest, it will come as a shock to fans to see so such wholesale changes.

Among those swapped into the starting XI is Felix Wiedwald, dropped from the starting XI in recent games for Andy Lonergan, return to the fold, while Pontus Jansson is another regular who was benched on Saturday.

Fans were uncertain about Christiansen’s extreme decision, and took to Twitter to voice their opinions.

Christiansen’s team selection suggests he has one eye on Friday’s league match against third placed Sheffield United at Elland Road, as the club look to get their promotion bid back on track.

Saturday’s 3-0 win away at Bristol City helped push the Whites back up the table, moving from sixth to fourth, sitting six points behind league leaders Wolves and four points behind second placed Cardiff and the Blades who are one place above Leeds.
