Watch: Leeds fans react on Twitter as academy product scores wondergoal for rivals

By Will Butcher

Leeds fans were in nostalgic mood on Twitter after watching academy product Jonny Howson rifle home a spectacular volley for Norwich.

The 28-year-old scored what could be a contender for Championship goal of the season for the Canaries in their convincing 5-1 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday at Carrow Road.

Howson found the top corner of Stephen Henderson’s net after a corner was headed up into the air in the tenth minute by two-time European champions Forest.

Football On 5 posted a video of the midfielder’s audacious effort on their official Twitter account, describing the strike as an “incredible volley” – and they’re not wrong.

Howson’s strike was not dissimilar from Paul Scholes’ wondergoal for Man United against Aston Villa back in December 2006.

Leeds fans took to Twitter in reminiscent mood as they looked back to fond memories of Howson scoring similar efforts in the all-white strip of the Yorkshire giants.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

After breaking through the academy as a striker, Howson was converted into a holding midfield player at Elland Road following his debut back in 2006 against Barnet in the EFL Cup.

Howson went on to make 225 league and cup appearances in which he found the back of the net 28 times, before moving to east Anglia in 2012.

In other Leeds news, fans have also reacted to the news that this player could be out of Tuesday night’s clash against Bristol City.
