Leeds fans react on Twitter to David Wagner sending off for Huddersfield
By Amir Mir
David Wagner was sent to the stands as Huddersfield beat Leeds 2-1 on Sunday afternoon – and Whites fans on Twitter have slammed the German’s behaviour.
As the game was entering its final minutes, the scores between the two Yorkshire rivals were level before Michael Hefele scored a late winner for the Terriers.
The winning goal prompted Huddersfield manager Wagner to enter the Leeds technical area to celebrate with his players.
He was blocked off by the opposition manager Monk before a brawl ensued between the two teams.
Both Wagner and Monk were then sent off by the referee as Huddersfield clinched a dramatic three points in front of their own supporters.
However, despite a feisty and entertaining game, Leeds fans were criticising Wagner for his behaviour and his disrespect.
Supporters believe that their Yorkshire rivals deserved to win the contest but Wagner lacked class for his actions.
Following the win for Wagner’s side, they have now leapfrogged Monk’s team in the Championship table.
The Terriers are on 55 points from their 29 games, while their fifth-placed rivals have one point less having played a game more.
Nonetheless, fans believe that Wagner has now provided their team with a team talk for when the duo meet in the play-offs.
