Leeds fans react on Twitter as Monk delivers update on fringe midfielder
By Will Butcher
Matt Grimes has been assured he is still in contention to play for Leeds by Garry Monk – but fans have called for their manager to cancel Grimes’ loan spell on Twitter.
Monk surprisingly revealed that Grimes still has a chance when asked about his future, as quoted on Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Lee Sobot’s personal Twitter account:
“All the players are very much involved, throughout the season there will be people in and out of squads,” Monk said.
The 21-year-old has failed to feature for the Yorkshire giants since the middle of December, and his position in the side is now under threat over rules concerning the amount of loans allowed.
On loan from Swansea, Grimes joins Kyle Bartley, Pontus Jansson, Hadi Sacko, Modou Barrow and Alfonso Pedraza on loan, with only five players allowed in an 18-man match day squad.
That means one of those players will miss out, with the likelihood being Grimes or winger Hadi Sacko after the duo were overlooked for the match day squad against Huddersfield.

Grimes has started just five games all season, with only one of those in the Championship on the first day of the season in the 3-0 loss away to QPR.
With Jansson signing permanently at the end of the season and Pablo Hernandez ending his loan to sign on as a Leeds player, Grimes’ loan is not expected to be made permanent.
In other Leeds news, Monk has made an admission over the potential of his Leeds squad.
