Leeds fans react on Twitter to Wood Championship POTY snub
By Matt Farr
Leeds goalscoring sensation Chris Wood lost out in the three-man race to win the Championship Player of the Year award on Sunday – and fans on Twitter were furious.
Wood, 25, was named alongside Brighton winger Anthony Knockaert and Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle on the three-man shortlist, but the award was handed to Knockaert.
The Leeds striker was overlooked for the award despite leading the Championship goalscoring charts this season, netting 24 goals from 38 league appearances.
He has almost singlehandedly carried Leeds into contention for promotion to the Premier League ahead of next season, having scored an incredible 44 per cent of Leeds’ 55 league goals.
However, Brighton’s tricky winger Knockaert was instead crowned as the player of the year, much to the fury of Leeds fans on Twitter.

Woke up to see Wood didn't get POTY. Hahahah, what a joke. He's been well and truly robbed there.

Don't understand wood not getting award but then again expected it couldn't give it to a Leeds player who has out scored all

Pmsl the EFL continue to make complete jokes off themselves. Both Gayle and Wood have been more pivotal to there clubs success

Never expected Wood to win bit in terms of a most improved player or one who's made the biggest contribution to a side, he's been #1. #lufc

Debatable. Chris Wood has been unplayable, top scorer in the league and carried us at times. Gayle more unplayable than Knockaert.

Meanwhile, the New Zealand international can also put his award snub behind him and prove everyone wrong by firing Leeds back into the Premier League for the first time since the 2003-04 campaign.
The icing on the cake can be if Wood maintains his current goalscoring form and finishes with the Championship Golden Boot.
Award winner Knockaert has scored 13 goals and supplied nine assists for Brighton this season, who top of the Championship table.
