Leeds handed ‘big bonus’ after confirmed news in last 24 hours – Mills

Danny Mills has suggested Leeds United could be handed a “big bonus” against Burnley this Sunday.

The former England defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, hinted that the Whites’ potential injury returnees could make the difference in the clash.

As quoted by Leeds Live today (31 December), Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa revealed that Junior Firpo, Dan James, Diego Llorente, and Robin Koch have returned to fitness ahead of Sunday’s game.

The Argentine also confirmed Jack Harrison’s availability after the winger limped off against Arsenal earlier this month (18 December).

The Gunners were the last team to face Leeds United after subsequent games against Liverpool and Aston Villa fell foul of COVID postponements.

When asked if the Whites could have made the most of their unscheduled break, Mills told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley: “It’ll be interesting, won’t it?

“Some teams have suffered, and others have benefitted from having these breaks.

“You have to look at the fact that they may have more players back from injury, which of course is a huge advantage and benefit for Leeds.

“Some of these teams who have hit with COVID issues, they’ve had a bit of extra time to prepare. But Leeds were forced to shut down their training ground, which certainly won’t have helped their preparation for this game.

“With the likes of Llorente coming back from injury, among other important players like James, it could be a really big bonus for them in a tight match down the bottom of the table.”

Despite confirming talisman Patrick Bamford is “healthy”, Bielsa suggested the striker may not start Sunday’s match.

The Whites sit five points clear of their opponents after playing 18 games.
