Leeds in pole position over Premier League rivals to sign Troy Parrott in record-breaking deal
Leeds United are leading the race from England to sign former Tottenham striker Troy Parrott, just one year after he left the Premier League.
Wolves and Leeds are both interested in Parrott, who has scored 14 goals across 17 appearances for AZ Alkmaar this season.
The 23-year-old joined the North London club’s academy in 2017, but made just four senior appearances amid several loan deals before he finally left permanently last year.
Tottenham’s decision to sell Parrott has been questioned, especially after the forward scored a hat-trick against Hungary to send Ireland to the World Cup play-offs.
West Ham have been tipped for involvement in the race for Parrott, too, with the Hammers preparing to sell Niklas Fullkrug in January.

Leeds at the front of the queue for Troy Parrott
Wolves attempted to sign Parrott in the summer, but were unable to meet the £25million price tag set by AZ after the striker’s strong first season.
The Ireland international had struggled for much of his time in England, but looked to come alive when he moved on loan to Eredivisie club Excelsior.

There, the 23-year-old scored 17 goals across 32 appearances, including 10 in just 25 league games.
That convinced AZ to pursue Parrott, and they have been rewarded massively. The forward scored 20 goals across 47 appearances in his first season, and is well on course to easily surpass that number in this campaign.
Given Parrott’s form this season, and the recent fame he has attracted due to his performances on the international stage, AZ are expected to want far more than the £25m they demanded just six months ago.
Any deal to get the striker out of the Netherlands will surely surpass the Alkmaar-based club’s record sale – Alireza Jahanbakhsh, who joined Brighton for £19.8m in 2018.

Leeds are leading the race for Parrott’s signature in England, however, with one major bookmaker giving the striker 6/1 odds of joining the Whites in January.
Parrott not thinking about moving yet
Given the intensifying interest around Parrott, it would be easy to forget that the striker has only spent 18 months with AZ.
Speaking to Premier Sports after AZ had beaten Shelbourne in the Europa Conference League last week, he said: “Look, if there’s interest there, I must be doing something right.
“As I said before, I’m really settled here, I’m really happy here. I’m really enjoying my football, so in my mind, nothing has changed. I’m focused on being here.
“The future is the future, I just have to keep taking every game as it comes.” Should Leeds come knocking, however, a return to the Premier League may prove an opportunity too good to pass up.
