Leeds line up big-money Liverpool raid after Monk blown away by emerging star – report

By Dominic Toner

Leeds are interested in signing young attacker Ryan Kent, according to a report.

The Sun claim that the Whites are monitoring the situation of Liverpool’s 20-year-old, who is currently on a season-long loan at Championship club Barnsley and are lining up a big-money move.

It is understood that Leeds are will head the queue for Kent in the summer and will make a £2.5million raid if Liverpool decide to sell him, but he is happy to see the remainder of the season out on loan with Barnsley.

The report details that Garry Monk has been blown away by the winger’s performances so far this season.

The £2.5million sum that Leeds are lining up would represent a big-money move for the cash-strapped club, who mostly deal in low-cost signings and loans in the transfer market.

The Yorkshire giants’ £3million signing of Kemar Roofe last summer was their biggest fee paid for many years.

Kent has been a regular for Barnsley this season and featured in 32 matches across all competitions, scoring two goals and supplying two assists.

He is a highly-rated youngster at Liverpool and has been loaned out to experience regular first-team football.

The left winger is blessed with great trickery and has tormented Championship defences on a number of occasions.

Football Insider verdict:

Liverpool youngster Kent is certainly an exciting prospect and is delivering strong performances during his loan spell with Barnsley. The 20-year-old is a creative player and does appear to have a bright future ahead of him, but needs to improve his end product to be a top player. He has managed just two goals this season and will be keen to rectify that in the second half of the season. Leeds’ interest in the youngster makes sense and the club’s supporters will certainly trust the judgement of their manager Monk. However, the Whites are now blessed with several options in the wide positions after adding Alfonso Pedraza and Modou Barrow to their squad in January.

In other Leeds transfer news, Pedraza believes that English football will suit his style.
