Leeds United have pulled out of the race to sign Blackburn Rovers attacker Sammie Szmodics, sources have told Football Insider.

The 28-year-old is in advanced talks with Premier League new boys Ipswich Town and the midfielder is said to prefer a move to the English top flight.

Leeds registered their interest earlier in the window but are now prioritising other deals as they seek promotion back to the Premier League.

Szmodics ended last season as the Championship's top goal scorer with 27 goals in 44 appearances as Blackburn finished 19th.

Leeds United won't be signing Sammie Szmodics

Alongside the Golden Boot Szmodics was named in the Championship Team of the Season following his impressive campaign.

He has since earned his first senior international appearance for the Republic of Ireland, starting in their 0-0 draw with Belgium in March.

Leeds are in dire need of adding players ahead of the grueling season that awaits them if they want to earn promotion back to the promised land of the Premier League.

The West Yorkshire club have brought in Joe Rodon and Jayden Bogle but have lost 16 first-team players including wonderkid Archie Gray to Tottenham.
