After the disaster of a season Leeds United have had this year, the Elland Road faithful will no doubt be sweating over the future of their favourites come the summer.

What was supposed to be a push for a play off spot has ended with the club floundering around in mid-table, and there will certainly be some players eyeing the exit door for greener pastures when the end of the season comes around.

One man who will be near the top of several clubs’ shortlists will be central defender Pontus Jansson, who has established himself into a top quality defender while at the club, and the Leeds supporters will be fearing a big money bid from either a Championship rival or Premier League side which will poach their star man away from them.

The only way to keep him from leaving is to splash the cash, but instead of putting a new contract on the table to tempt him, it should be the arrival of a man he knows very well which can secure his future as well as improving the quality of the squad.

The Daily Record claim that Scottish champions Celtic are looking to offload versatile defender Mikael Lustig this summer, after the 31-year-old’s 225 appearances for the Hoops.

An improvement at the back, especially at right back and centre back, where Lustig operates, is needed at Leeds, so his arrival would be a big boost, but it would also help keep Jansson happy.

The pair are international teammates for Sweden, and will have got to know each other after both being in and around the squad for the last six years.

Jansson would no doubt be able to vouch for the quality of Lustig, who has picked up a haul of trophies while with Celtic, and his arrival would be a real signal of intent by the Whites, convincing the 26-year-old to spend at least another season at Elland Road.
