Leeds player ratings v Middlesbrough: Senior duo to blame in shocking 3/10 displays
Goalkeeper and defenders
Felix Wiedwald – 3: An absolute shocker of a showing from the German shot stopper, he was caught flapping at crosses and was beaten far too easily for Boro’s second. His performance will have reminded fans of the shaky performances before he was axed in place of Andy Lonergan, and there will no doubt be calls for him to be replaced again.
Gaetano Berardi – 6: Perhaps the most solid of an all round disappointing display from the Leeds defence. His no nonsense display actually saw him manage the likes of Stewart Downing well, and he was often found throwing himself around to stop the home side’s attacks.
Pontus Jansson – 5: Not the Swedish international’s finest hour, he, like the rest of his back line, struggled to deal with the pace of the likes of Adama Traore and Patrick Bamford. He was not the usual threat he was from set plays either, but should not be blamed for the third goal, which should have been called offside.
Liam Cooper – 5: A misplaced cross-field pass in the second half summed up Cooper’s display. Never convincing on the ball, and struggled to deal with Middlesbrough off it.
Vurnon Anita – 5: Unlike Berardi on the other flank, the former Newcastle man struggled with Boro’s wide players, his lack of physicality hindering his ability to compete.
