Ayling did not have too much to do before he was substituted in the first-half with an injury.
The right-back had played every minute of every Championship game this season before he was hooked in the 25th minute after he failed to continue following a clash with Liam Bridcutt.
Vurnon Anita came off the bench to replace Ayling, which promoted Gaetano Berardi to move to right-back and Anita to left-back.
