Leeds ‘race’ Premier League rival to sign Troy Parrott ahead of January

AZ Alkmaar hotshot Troy Parrott is being targeted by two Premier League sides amid some standout form for club and country.

Troy Parrott‘s career has burst into life over the last 12 months after some incredible developments at both club and international level.

The Irish striker failed to ever fully break into the first-team picture at Tottenham during his seven-year spell at the club, which ended when he permanently joined AZ Alkmaar in July 2024.

He notched 20 times in 47 appearances in all competitions in his maiden campaign with the Dutch club, and Football Insider recently revealed that Parrott is wanted by Premier League sides after he fired Ireland to the World Cup play-offs.

His strong form has continued at Alkmaar too, with 14 goals in 15 games so far this term, and the identity of two of those English top-flight sides has now been revealed.

Leeds United and Wolves are both interested in Parrott

According to a new report from talkSPORT, Leeds and Wolves are among the clubs vying to sign Parrott in January as they each aim to move away from relegation danger.

Wolves have him high on their list of striker targets with boss Rob Edwards affiliated to the same agency as the 23-year-old, making a potential move easier, while Leeds also rate him massively and could explore a January move.

Wolves wanted to sign Parrott in the summer window, but were put off by Alkmaar’s £25million valuation of his services.

His stock is currently as high as it has ever been after he netted five goals in two games for the Republic of Ireland, including a hat-trick against Hungary to send them into March’s World Cup play-offs.

Tottenham have been criticised for letting Parrott leave

Parrott emerged through the Spurs’ academy to make his first-team debut for the club as a 17-year-old in 2019, and the faith shown in him at such a young age was proof of how highly he was rated in North London.

Loan spells with Millwall, Ipswich Town, MK Dons and Preston all largely proved fruitless between 2020 and 2023, but he did impress in a spell with Excelsior in 2023-24 as he netted 17 goals in 32 games.

Tottenham were recently slammed for letting Parrott leave last year by former boss Tim Sherwood on Sky Sports, who said: “I’ve got to question anyone who decided to let him go.”

Many Spurs supporters were in agreement with Sherwood, and they could well be made to rue their mistake even further in the years to come if he returns to the Premier League and scores regularly.
