Leeds star Ethan Ampadu sends message to fans after ‘great’ development
Leeds United captain Ethan Ampadu took to social media to thank the “great away following” after their 2-0 Championship win over Stoke City on Boxing Day (December 26).
The 24-year-old played his second consecutive 90 minutes in the win over Stoke after making his first start since September in their previous 4-0 win over Oxford United.
Ampadu missed 12 games for his side after picking up a knee injury in their 3-0 win over Preston earlier in the season.
Joel Piroe opened the scoring just before half-time at the bet365 Stadium with a clever finish from a tight angle before securing his brace and the three points in the second half.
Leeds’ win over Stoke sees them climb to the top of the Championship table, leapfrogging both Burnley and Sheffield United in the process.
Ethan Ampadu key for Leeds United as the race for promotion heats up
Ampadu made his long-awaited return in a five-minute cameo appearance in Leeds’ 3-1 league win over Middlesbrough.
The defensive midfielder has been integral for Daniel Farke’s side despite the injury, starting 10 of his 12 games across all competitions, making zero goal contributions in his 842 minutes of action.
Ampadu took to Instagram after the win over Stoke to thank the fans, Saying: “Boxing Day W. Great away following as always.”

Farke’s side travel to old rivals Derby for their last game of 2024 on Sunday (December 29) knowing a win would keep them at the top of the Championship table.
Leeds have six games in January alone, including a pivotal away game at fellow promotion hopefuls Burnley at the end of the month.
