Leeds tipped to promote Summerville to first XI after footage emerges on Twitter – Whelan
Noel Whelan has suggested Crysencio Summerville’s performances and mentality will have hugely impressed Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United.
The former Leeds striker and club ambassador, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, hailed the attitude of the 20-year-old after his standout performances for the under-23s.
Summerville scored a hat-trick against Sunderland’s under-23s on Wednesday, just days after being named on the bench for the first team against Burnley.
Whelan insisted young players need to demonstrate a desire to improve and progress regardless of what level they are playing at.
He suggested Summerville’s attitude will have caught the manager’s eye.
Whelan told Football Insider’s “We know what a talent he is. I keep talking about strides and progression and not standing still.
“Even when you’ve had a few games in the first team, this shows the mentality of the player.
“It doesn’t matter what level he’s playing at, he wants to thrive. He wants to be the player, he wants to do as well as possible. That kind of attitude that I talk about where you never want to stand still.
“You want to keep progressing, moving forward, fighting, pushing for that first-team place. Being in the eye of the manager. A hat-trick is going to do that.
“I think he will be one of these players given the opportunity in the FA Cup against West Ham, because of the attitude and character that he’s shown in the under-23s.”

Summerville has played seven times for Leeds’ senior side to date, having joined in the summer of 2020.
He also has two appearances under his belt for the Netherlands under-21 side.
