Leeds told to beat Champions League club to Van Aanholt signing after big update - Agbonlahor

Patrick van Aanholt “would be a great signing” for Leeds United, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa and England striker claimed the Dutchman was “Mr Reliable” and every Premier League club outside of the top seven will want to sign him.

The Mirror report Van Aanholt has emerged as a transfer target for Leeds ahead of the summer window when his contract expires at Crystal Palace.

This site revealed in February that he was in negotiations with a Champions League side ahead of next season.

Leeds are in desperate need of a natural left-back with Ezgjan Alioski and Stuart Dallas sharing the role this season.

Alioski could leave Elland Road in the summer after Football Insider broke the news last month he had instructed his agent to find him a new club.

His contract is up in the summer and negotiations with the Yorkshire giants have reached an impasse.

Asked whether Van Aanholt would be a good replacement, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “He’s played a lot of Premier League games.

“He’s Mr Reliable and he’s very good going forward.

“I think that would be a great signing and it’s something that Leeds should pursue.

“Any club in the Premier League, not the top six or seven, but anyone below would love to have him.

“He’s a great left-back.”

Van Aanholt has played over 200 Premier League clubs across spells with Palace, Sunderland, Wigan Athletic and Chelsea.

This season he has played 18 top-flight games, including 17 starts.

In other news, a young striker has been granted permission for a six-figure move after heading to Leeds United.
