Leeds United employee tips 20-year-old to emulate Gelhardt after Marsch reveal

Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch could use Crysencio Summerville as an impact substitute between now and the end of the season.

That is the view of Whites ambassador Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 20-year-old’s development at Elland Road.

Summerville is yet to make an appearance under Marsch despite being named on the bench for all four of his games in charge.

As quoted by Leeds Live (17 March), Marsch heaped praise on the young winger for his performance against Man United’s under-23s on Tuesday.

Whelan believes Summerville could soon be given his chance like Joe Gelhardt.

“You can never say never when it comes to young players,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“We have seen that with Gelhardt. He’s shown just how good he can be when he plays with no fear.

“It is the same for a lot of other young players playing at clubs around the Premier League. Sometimes you need that in your side in tense times. There is no reason why these young players cannot be introduced right now.

I think Jesse Marsch would like as much experience out there as possible which is understandable. These games are going to be tense and nervy at times but these young players have the hunger, desire and energy to change a game.

“I don’t think they’ll start but they can make an impact off the bench. That is what they’ll be needed for.”
