Leeds United 25-year-old backed to fill Kalvin Phillips ‘void’ after reveal – Whelan

Noel Whelan has suggested Jack Harrison could be the next Leeds United captain.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites striker said that Harrison, 25, could step into the leadership “void” left by Kalvin Phillips’ exit.

Speaking to LUTV (1 July), Harrison revealed the players are raring to go after a “difficult” spell last season.

The Yorkshire club finished 17th in the Premier League last season.

Whelan has tipped Harrison to “step up” as one of the more experienced players in the side.

“Jack Harrison has another season under his belt at Leeds United, he’s been here quite a while.” he told Football Insider.

“Now is a time where players who have been there quite a long time should be the ones that have leadership qualities about them on the field and off the field.

You’d like to think there’s quite a few of those players now.

“Losing Kalvin Phillips is a blow, this opens up a door here for many people to fill that void and be that captain, be that leader, be that voice out there.

We’re going to need not just one captain, you’re always looking for people to step up to the plate and be vocal out there on the field and in the changing room about certain things if they’re not good enough.

So I think we’ve got an honest bunch of players at Leeds United and I think they will certainly voice their opinions if someone’s not pulling their weight.
